microleakage evaluation at implant-abutment interface using radiotracer technique
نویسندگان
چکیده
objectives : microbial leakage through the implant-abutment (i-a) interface results in bacterial colonization in two-piece implants. the aim of this study was to compare microleakage rates in three types of replace abutments namely snappy, goldadapt, and customized ceramic using radiotracing. materials and methods: three groups, one for each abutment type, of five implants and one positive and one negative control were considered (a total of 17 regular body implants). a torque of 35 n/cm was applied to the abutments. the samples were immersed in thallium 201 radioisotope solution for 24 hours to let the radiotracers leak through the i-a interface. then, gamma photons received from the radiotracers were counted using a gamma counter device. in the next phase, cyclic fatigue loading process was applied followed by the same steps of immersion in the radioactive solution and photon counting. results: rate of microleakage significantly increased (p≤0.05) in all three types of abutments (i.e. snappy, goldadapt, and ceramic) after cyclic loading. no statistically significant differences were observed between abutment types after cyclic loading. conclusions: microleakage significantly increases after cyclic loading in all three replace abutments (goldadapt, snappy, ceramic). lowest microleakage before and after cyclic loading was observed in goldadapt followed by snappy and ceramic. keywords: dental implants; dental implant-abutment design; thallium chloride

متن کاملCorrelation between microleakage and screw loosening at implant-abutment connection
PURPOSE This study aimed to evaluate the correlation between microleakage and screw loosening at different types of implant-abutment connections and/or geometries measuring the torque values before and after the leakage tests. MATERIALS AND METHODS Three different abutment types (Intenal hex titanium, internal hex zirconium, morse tapered titaniuım) with different geometries were connected to...
متن کاملMicroleakage at the abutment-implant interface of osseointegrated implants: a comparative study.
Microleakage can occur at the abutment-implant (A-I) interface in osseointegrated implants and may cause malodor and inflammation of peri-implant tissues. The degree of microleakage at the A-I interface of 5 implant systems was comparatively assessed at varying closing torques. Using colored tracing probes driven by a 2-atm pressure system, the interface microleakage of Brånemark, Sulzer Calcit...
متن کاملParameters determining micromotion at the implant-abutment interface.
PURPOSE Micromotion at the implant-abutment level has been reported to be a major determinant of longterm implant success, as technical problems ranging from screw loosening to screw fracture may occur as a consequence of excessive micromotion. MATERIALS AND METHODS Following published standards, implant-abutment assemblies were fixed in a universal testing machine at a 30-degree angle. A cyc...
متن کاملBacterial colonization at implant – abutment interface: a systematic review
Background: Although implants have shown to have a high success rate, clinicians are also called upon to encounter numerous complications and failures. Among the numerous reasons of failures, peri-implantitis is reported to account for 10% of the failures. As the oral cavity provides a natural habitat for various micro-organism due to its non-shedding surface, there is some evidence that gram-n...
متن کاملPersistent acute inflammation at the implant-abutment interface.
The inflammatory response adjacent to implants has not been well-investigated and may influence peri-implant tissue levels. The purpose of this study was to assess, histomorphometrically, (1) the timing of abutment connection and (2) the influence of a microgap. Three implant designs were placed in the mandibles of dogs. Two-piece implants were placed at the alveolar crest and abutments connect...
